Piano Boat For The Rio Grande
During the summer of 2017 Alex Branch built a boat for the Rio Grande River at the Sanitary Tortilla Factory Residency in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The idea was to build a boat that was both a functioning water vessel and an accoustic sound producing instrument. Branch built the boat in 6 weeks using the stitch and glue method of boat building. The boat is constructed from plywood and repurposed grand piano parts from a grand piano she found discarded in the desert and dismantled. The Piano Boat is the first in a series of accoustic boats Branch is building for specific rivers.
