Instruments/Sound Sculpture > Concussive Idiophone
”Idiophone”. 2017.
Glass bottles, spoons, springs, bay water from superfund site.
This piece was made for a show that was based on Dead Horse Bay, which is a body of water in southern Brooklyn. Once an area for horse refineries, Dead Horse Bay then became a land fill. The landfill was capped in the 1930s and then due to a buildup of methane the cap blew in the 1950s. Now the beach is strewn with trash dating from the 1930s and before.
I made this instrumental piece using bottles and spoons I found on the beach as well as water from the bay. The bottles were filled to different levels to alter the pitch.
